The first sign of fleas in your home is most probably your pet scratching if you have one! Fleas have a complete metamorphosis meaning they lay eggs which hatch into larvae which pupate then turn in to a nymph ready to grow into the adult. There is a very small percentage alive as adults meaning most are larvae, eggs and pupae. Insecticides will kill all cycles apart from the pupae. As they can lay dormant for in excess of 12 months in this stage is important that you carry out a vigorous treatment ensuring pets are treated and their bedding is washed. Vacuum regularly emptying the bag and carry out a complete treatment. Fumers/smoke bombs will kill almost everything alive and then a residual insecticide to continue to kill as the weeks pass. Second treatments are not uncommon so close monitoring is recommended.
